My Reflection on Summer 2016 at Rebecca Adele PR & Events

I can’t believe another summer has flown by! It feels like yesterday I was just leaving school and getting ready to start an internship for the very first time. Before I left for school I was interviewing for internships left and right, it wasn’t until I stumbled upon an advertisement for Rebecca Adele PR & Events, that I knew I had to have this one. I was so excited when Becki reached out to me asking to interview. After the interview, and finding out I got the job, I was so ecstatic!

I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous before starting my internship at Rebecca Adele PR & Events. I did not know what to expect or what every day would look like. As soon as I walked into the office, the cutest pets, whom I have grown to love, welcomed me. We got to work right away, which was exciting because I have learned so much the past few months. I have learned everything from social media plans, to press releases and how to plan events.

As a writer, event planner, and PR specialist, this internship has helped me build a portfolio I can take with me for years to come. Becki is one of the most hardworking, passionate, and motivated people I have ever met. She knows so much about the field and is always willing to help you grow. I am so lucky to have worked along side with her this summer, and watch her build her company even more.

This internship has helped me establish that I am ready to be in the PR world. I have definitely chosen the right career path for me. I am excited to head back to Ohio University this fall with all the knowledge I have gained from this experience. However I will miss Becki and the team at Rebecca Adele PR & Events. Thank you Becki for an amazing summer internship!

Melania Trump Plagiarizes Michelle Obama’s 2008 Convention Speech

The RNC was filled with exciting, and interesting speeches last night. Most notable was potential first lady, Melania Trump who delivered the night’s headlining speech in what was her first spotlight moment since she married Donald Trump 11 years ago. The crowd praised the speech, but her remarks almost immediately came under scrutiny when parts of it sounded familiar to those of First Lady, Michelle Obama at the Democratic convention in 2008.

Jarrett Hill, a twitter user whose biography describes him as an interior designer and journalist, apparently first noticed the resemblance. However, Mrs. Trump said in an interview with Matt Lauer of NBC before her speech that she just reviewed it once. “I wrote it with as little help as possible,” she stated.

Mr. Trump’s aides declined to identify whom, if anyone, on the campaign helped in writing her speech. Mr. Trump’s main speechwriter is Stephen Miller, and campaign’s chief strategist, Paul Manafort, has managed the convention program and speakers.

In a statement released, a campaign spokesman, Jason Miller, praised Mrs. Trump’s speech, which he stated was written by other people he did not identify with. He did not directly address the similarities to Mrs. Obama’s speech, but he indicated that Mrs. Trump had “included fragments” from other people. “In writing her beautiful speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking,” Mr. Miller said. “Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it a success.”

Although this speech has made headlines, and has started a controversy, Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has no plans to fire anybody on the campaign or to take any disciplinary action against anyone for plagiarism.

Miss Teen USA Eliminates Swimsuit Competition

Miss. Teen USA is one of America’s highest-profile beauty pageants. Founded 33 years ago, the competition has always featured rounds where contestants compete in private interviews with the judges, and presentation rounds in evening wear, and swim suits. However, change is coming this July 30th at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. For the first year ever, the swimsuit round has been eliminated. Instead, the 51 women will be judged in a brand-new athletic wear competition.

The pageant’s organizers stated that the swimsuit portions were always intended to show off the athleticism of the competitors. However, the swimsuit category was chastised for exploiting and sexualizing young women and not promoting diverse body types. The new athletic-wear portion will now focus on young women’s health and wellness.

Former Miss Teen USA Katherine Haik always wanted to eliminate the swimsuit round. “I have always been an athlete my entire life. As member of a softball team and a competitive dance team, I spend a lot of time in athletic wear,” she stated. “This new direction for Miss Teen USA is a great way to celebrate the active lives that so many women lead and set a strong example for our peers.”

The pageant’s shift from swimsuits to athletic wear is also a smart business move, chasing the rise of athleisure fashion, says former Miss Virginia Nancy Redd. “Teens are spending 1 percent of their life in a bathing suite and 50 percent in athleisure. The pageant is following the trend of who can sponsor them.”

Reaction to the new decision was overwhelmingly positive, with many comments from former contestants and judges. This big switch could impact the other pageants in the Miss. Universe organization. It will be interesting to see if they follow the lead of Miss Teen USA.  The 2016 Miss Teen USA pageant will be held in Las Vegas on July 30^th.
