If you are like me, you spend half of your days scrolling through your Instagram feed double tapping on different posts and watching funny videos or memes. Again if you are anything like me, we also follow way too many clothing brands and cosmetic companies that continuously post new items. When I first had Instagram, you would have to write down what the item was you were interested in and look it up separately on the internet. Now? You can just tap once on the post and a link pops up that you can click on and it will take you directly to the product page and website. How convenient is this?!
Being able to shop on Instagram makes it much easier for shoppers the buy items. Shoppers like me who have no will power when it comes to online shopping! It is also gives companies an opportunity to grow their brand awareness and open up areas for more revenue. If you are advertising the product you might as well sell the product in the same place right?
Instagram is still for watching fun videos and seeing cute posts of your friends, but branching out into a new area can be a big step in a new direction. What do you think social medias will do next to make shopping even easier for the consumer??

Reflecting on My Summer at Rebecca Adele PR & Events
As my time as a summer intern for Rebecca PR & Events
comes to a close, I have a lot to be thankful for and reflect on. I’ve had
experience writing and using social media, but I’ve never used these skills in
the platform I’ve been able to during my time here.
When I first applied for this internship, I had no idea what
was in store for me; I just knew it felt like the perfect fit. Turns out, I was
right! This experience has provided me with the knowledge and skills I need to
be successful in my future career. Not only have I learned new skills and improved
the ones I already had, but it’s been a reassuring experience for me. I always
knew I loved the public relations field, but looking back on my time here and
everything I’ve done, I know for certain that this is what I want to do for the
rest of my life, and I have Becki to thank for that.
From creating blog posts to social media plans to working
the events throughout the summer, not a second of it was mundane or boring.
I’ve had the opportunity at this internship to do more than just sit in an
office day-in and day-out and wait for my dismissal. I looked forward to my
work day and the conversation and friendships I’ve built with Becki and Lexie,
the other intern.
Normally, I would be very sad to leave this internship
forever. However, I’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to stay on with
Rebecca Adele PR & Events and continue my internship experience virtually
for the upcoming fall semester. Being the last semester of my college career, I
know the continuation of this internship will keep my skills sharp and keep me
focused and ready when a full-time career opportunity arises.
I couldn’t have asked for a better internship and I can’t
think of another way I would have rather spent my summer than here at Rebecca
Adele PR & Events!

My Summer at Rebecca Adele PR & Events
I can’t believe my internship at Rebecca
PR & Events is coming to an end! It feels like it was just yesterday that I
was walking into Becki’s colorful and fun office, being greeted by several cats
and her beloved pup, Google.
I looked forward to the 45-minute drive
to Solon every Monday and Wednesday because our workdays were upbeat and fun,
filled with music, talking and the exchange of ideas. While I did have some
experience in social media, I have never done any public relations or event
planning. However, Becki made it easy to learn and explained everything I
needed to know, while still giving me some room to be creative and think for
myself.
My day-to-day tasks included writing
blogs and press releases, producing and scheduling social media posts, and
marketing for upcoming shows for Avant-Garde and Bump to Bows Shows! Working in a
fast paced environment has definitely helped me to work harder and be more
efficient and creative in my writing. Being able to see my work being used
online was rewarding and made me confident that the work I was doing was
relevant and important.
Working with Becki was such a rewarding
and fun experience. She was constantly giving feedback and helping me to learn
from my mistakes, which is what I was looking for in an internship. Hearing her
success story about how she was able to get where she is today was very
inspiring, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work for such a successful
and experienced woman. One of the most important things that she taught me is
that you can do anything you want as long as you work for it and to not let
anyone get in the way of your goals. Anyone who has the opportunity to work
with Becki is very lucky because her kind and hard-working attitude is
inspiring and surely motivating. I am so very appreciative for my experience at
Rebecca Adele PR & Events and will use what I have learned for my future
career in public relations!

Miss Teen USA Eliminates Swimsuit Competition
Miss. Teen USA is one of America’s highest-profile beauty
pageants. Founded 33 years ago, the competition has always featured rounds
where contestants compete in private interviews with the judges, and
presentation rounds in evening wear, and swim suits. However, change is coming
this July 30th at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. For the first
year ever, the swimsuit round has been eliminated. Instead, the 51 women will
be judged in a brand-new athletic wear competition.
The pageant’s organizers stated that the swimsuit portions
were always intended to show off the athleticism of the competitors. However,
the swimsuit category was chastised for exploiting and sexualizing young women
and not promoting diverse body types. The new athletic-wear portion will now
focus on young women’s health and wellness.
Former Miss Teen USA Katherine Haik always wanted to
eliminate the swimsuit round. “I have always been an athlete my entire life. As
member of a softball team and a competitive dance team, I spend a lot of time
in athletic wear,” she stated. “This new direction for Miss Teen USA is a great
way to celebrate the active lives that so many women lead and set a strong
example for our peers.”
The pageant’s shift from swimsuits to athletic wear is also
a smart business move, chasing the rise of athleisure fashion, says former Miss
Virginia Nancy Redd. “Teens are spending 1 percent of their life in a bathing
suite and 50 percent in athleisure. The pageant is following the trend of who
can sponsor them.”
Reaction to the new decision was overwhelmingly positive,
with many comments from former contestants and judges. This big switch could
impact the other pageants in the Miss. Universe organization. It will be
interesting to see if they follow the lead of Miss Teen USA. The 2016 Miss Teen USA pageant will be held
in Las Vegas on July 30th.

Pinterest Button Changes to Save
If you’re one of
the 100 million active Pinterest users, there’s a chance you’re constantly
switching between your work and your beloved Pinterest account, where you’re
always noticing new outfit ideas, recipes and so much more! You also might have
noticed something different in the last week: the iconic “Pin It” button that
you’re always clicking on now says “Save.”
This red button
is not only visible on Pinterest, but also on other websites, and allows users
to pin content that they like, such as videos and photos, on boards for their
followers to see. According to Pinterest’s product manager Steven Walling, more
than half of Pinterest users are from outside of the U.S., so they are
constantly working to make sure the website and app is easy for everyone to
use. Unfortunately, the idea of “Pinning” photos and videos does not make sense
in all languages around the world, so they decided to test a change with its
users by swapping the “Pin It” button with a common word, “Save,” instead!
“We have a lot of love for out Pin It button, which has served us well
for so long,” said Walling. “But the most important thing is for Pinterest to
feel welcoming to everyone, and that’s why ultimately we went with the more
understandable Save.”
After the change,
Pinterest users have saved an astonishing 10% more with the button saying
“Save” rather than “Pin It.” There are also now around 150 million “Save”
buttons on the internet…definitely a successful change to celebrate!

My Time at Rebecca Adele PR & Events
What a fast 15 weeks it’s been – I can’t
believe my time at Rebecca Adele PR & Events is coming to an end, and I can
honestly say I would not have wanted to have my first internship experience at
any other company.
I remember going into my interview and
having Becki tell me to tell her a bit about myself. The one thing I remember
saying to this was: “I’m a very busy person, and I like bringing a busy,
fast-paced lifestyle,” and I remember her saying working here would give the
chance to do that – and she was right.
My day-to-day tasks ranged from writing and
scheduling social media posts on different social media outlets while using
scheduling programs, to writing press releases and acting as a media contact, to
creating blog posts on information relative to the public relations industry, and
marketing for upcoming craft shows throughout show season.
I learned so much during my time as an
intern to help shape who I am as a young professional venturing into the public
relations industry. Never throughout the duration of my internship did I feel
that I was doing something that was not going to help me in my future career in
some way. Not only had I learned valuable public relations skills, but I
expanded on my skills to handle many different tasks for different companies at
a time.
I was very fortunate to have had Becki as a
boss. She taught me so many skills I will be able to use when I go into “the
real world,” and was an outstanding mentor throughout the whole process. She
gave me the constructive criticism I needed that only helped me further my
skills, and always brought a fun and positive atmosphere in the office. I
couldn’t be more grateful to have had the experiences I did at Rebecca Adele PR
& Events these past weeks.
Thank you so much!
