My Reflection on Summer 2016 at Rebecca Adele PR & Events

I can’t believe another summer has flown by! It feels like yesterday I was just leaving school and getting ready to start an internship for the very first time. Before I left for school I was interviewing for internships left and right, it wasn’t until I stumbled upon an advertisement for Rebecca Adele PR & Events, that I knew I had to have this one. I was so excited when Becki reached out to me asking to interview. After the interview, and finding out I got the job, I was so ecstatic!

I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous before starting my internship at Rebecca Adele PR & Events. I did not know what to expect or what every day would look like. As soon as I walked into the office, the cutest pets, whom I have grown to love, welcomed me. We got to work right away, which was exciting because I have learned so much the past few months. I have learned everything from social media plans, to press releases and how to plan events.

As a writer, event planner, and PR specialist, this internship has helped me build a portfolio I can take with me for years to come. Becki is one of the most hardworking, passionate, and motivated people I have ever met. She knows so much about the field and is always willing to help you grow. I am so lucky to have worked along side with her this summer, and watch her build her company even more.

This internship has helped me establish that I am ready to be in the PR world. I have definitely chosen the right career path for me. I am excited to head back to Ohio University this fall with all the knowledge I have gained from this experience. However I will miss Becki and the team at Rebecca Adele PR & Events. Thank you Becki for an amazing summer internship!

Reflecting on My Summer at Rebecca Adele PR & Events

As my time as a summer intern for Rebecca PR & Events comes to a close, I have a lot to be thankful for and reflect on. I’ve had experience writing and using social media, but I’ve never used these skills in the platform I’ve been able to during my time here.

When I first applied for this internship, I had no idea what was in store for me; I just knew it felt like the perfect fit. Turns out, I was right! This experience has provided me with the knowledge and skills I need to be successful in my future career. Not only have I learned new skills and improved the ones I already had, but it’s been a reassuring experience for me. I always knew I loved the public relations field, but looking back on my time here and everything I’ve done, I know for certain that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I have Becki to thank for that.

From creating blog posts to social media plans to working the events throughout the summer, not a second of it was mundane or boring. I’ve had the opportunity at this internship to do more than just sit in an office day-in and day-out and wait for my dismissal. I looked forward to my work day and the conversation and friendships I’ve built with Becki and Lexie, the other intern.

Normally, I would be very sad to leave this internship forever. However, I’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to stay on with Rebecca Adele PR & Events and continue my internship experience virtually for the upcoming fall semester. Being the last semester of my college career, I know the continuation of this internship will keep my skills sharp and keep me focused and ready when a full-time career opportunity arises.

I couldn’t have asked for a better internship and I can’t think of another way I would have rather spent my summer than here at Rebecca Adele PR & Events!

Thank you Becki for my wonderful experience at Rebecca Adele PR & Events

It is sad to say that my time here as an intern for Rebecca Adele PR & Events has come to end.  However, I can say that I am not sad, but very happy that I can say that I loved every second of this internship! Although the summer went by way too fast and I wish I could stay longer for this internship, I was able to learn so much about the PR industry and what it takes to run a growing successful business.  Becki is such a positive role model. I am truly going to miss coming into the office every week.

This was my first PR internship and with the help of Becki, I was able to learn how to develop content for several different clients along with scheduling social media plans as well. I was never sitting at my desk bored, I was given plenty of writing tasks to do that kept me busy, along with that my confidence in my writing has grown tremendously which I am really grateful for.  The office life was very laid back and we listened to music while working every day, and even hung out with Google the adorable office dog!

This internship has helped me realize where I want to be in the future with my career. It is hard to believe that I will be graduating in the spring this year. I used to be nervous thinking about graduating but after interning with Becki, it has giving me plenty of confidence and experience within my career choice. I have confidence that I will find a job after graduation. 

Upon graduation, I hope to be working in the Toledo or Cleveland area for a PR firm.  I am ready for this next chapter in my life and I have Rebecca Adele PR & Events to thank for that!

Networking: The First Step to Getting Into an Industry and Succeeding

Whether you are a first-year graduate or the founder of a growing business, networking should be one of your favorite pastimes. We have all heard the saying, “It is not what you know, but whom you know” and if this saying stands true, then taking yourself out of your comfort zone and mastering networking is a must.

For graduates, landing a full-time job can be long and tiresome, with every extensive application sent, you can only hope your resume is being seen. It is time for you to get from behind your computer and show your face at events where the professionals of your industry of interest will be. Face-to-face interaction can go a lot farther that the keywords on your resume that may or may not stand out to a hiring manager. I am not saying these short chats will automatically land you your dream job, but here is what it will do:

1.     Give you more insight about the industry.

2.     Start a relationship with someone who has his or her foot already in the door, who can possibly pass your resume on to other contacts he/she may know.

3.     Give you practice talking to professionals about your desired career path

Networking should not stop once you have landed the job or have been in the business for years. Clients, media contacts, and any other driving forces of a business do not just pop out of thin air! Networking can allow you to make great relationships with people, whom in the long run (not necessarily right when you meet them) may help you when you are in need of assistance, such as a key introduction.  A growing list of contacts has never been a negative for a company!

A Reflection at My Time at Rebecca Adele PR & Events...

As I approach the end of my internship and the fall semester of my senior year I am so thankful for this experience and all that it has taught me. As a fashion major with a minor in marketing, I have never had any experience in PR but I was excited to get some hands on experience in the industry.

I came into this internship not knowing what to expect and eager to learn more. I was thrown into the crazy life of PR and event planning as I began my experience with Rebecca Adele PR & Events. Starting daily tasks like writing social media plans for various clients, learning how to use social media management websites like Sprout Social and Schedugram, writing blog posts, as well as writing press releases, all quickly became a part of my day-to-day learning.

This internship has taught me so much, and I can’t even begin to explain how thankful I am that this was my first internship experience. I didn’t just learn things like the media writing and how to use the websites like Sprout, but I learned how to deal with clients, vendors, and customer service. I learned how to work in a professional environment and how to work with a team of people. I learned how to manage my time and how to delegate tasks in order to work efficiently and for the office to run smoothly. 

I particulary enjoyed getting to know clients, and learning what kind of content they wanted to see posted to their websites/social media, who they are trying to target, and other information needed to brand their companies successfully.

As well as all of the things I have learned through this experience, one of the biggest ones that I will take away from this are the friendships that I have made working here. Between the days in the office listening to country music or classic Disney songs, the to road tripping to Columbus for a craft show, I have can now call these girls that I worked with some of my good friends.

My favorite part of this internship was getting to learn and see first hand what it takes to run your own business and what goes into planning events like all the craft shows that I have worked throughout this semester. One of my daily tasks was to read and post artist statements from our craft show vendors to our social media. I got to see what kind of products the vendors would be making for the craft shows before we even went to the shows.

After graduation in May, I hope to move to New York City and work in marketing or PR for a fashion design label. No matter what path I choose to go, I know that I will be well prepared for a life in the professional industry. Becki has taught me so much and I am so glad that I had this experience with Rebecca Adele PR and Events!

That’s a Wrap!

As I approached my last semester of graduate school, I knew I needed to find an internship to complete my degree. But not just any internship. I’ve already had two public relations internships and needed something different. I needed to find an internship where I would be challenged in a variety of ways to develop my writing, communication and creative skills. It just so happens that I met every one of those goals and more with my internship with Rebecca Adele PR and Events.

 

Before starting my internship with Rebecca Adele PR and Events, I was instantly attracted to the girly, feminine website and dreamt of being one of Becki’s interns. I was completely overjoyed and psyched when Becki reached out to me to come in for an interview. I knew I would love every second of the internship opportunity when I sat down for my interview, and her dog, Google, jumped on my lap. I thought to myself, “I could really fit in here!”

As I made it through my first week as an intern, I was amazed at how much I had already learned. From writing press releases to learning how to use different social media planning tools, I started to learn all of the ins and outs of the public relations industry. Becki wasn’t kidding when she told me that she was going to train me to be her, and I couldn’t have been more relieved! I knew this wasn’t going to be a typical internship, and that was exactly what I needed. 

My internship provided me with new learning experiences and opportunities where I was able to grow as a young, public relations professional. I have learned the importance of producing creative work to its fullest potential, the importance of remaining positive in hard situations and the importance of always learning new things. Not only did my internship improve my skills and expertise, I also gained a newfound confidence. Now that I’m entering the real world of public relations, I feel extremely confident in myself, and I owe it all to Becki.

As I finish up my portfolio and cuddle with Google one last time, I leave my internship knowing I have a mentor I can always count on. Whether I needed advice about a job or just needed someone to talk to, Becki was there for me for a number instances. Her superior guidance, advice and education all helped me grow to the person I am today. While I’m excited about starting my career, I will greatly miss my internship. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity, and I will be taking each lesson, piece of advice and learned skill with me. Thank you, Becki!
