My Time at Rebecca Adele PR & Events

What a fast 15 weeks it’s been – I can’t believe my time at Rebecca Adele PR & Events is coming to an end, and I can honestly say I would not have wanted to have my first internship experience at any other company.

I remember going into my interview and having Becki tell me to tell her a bit about myself. The one thing I remember saying to this was: “I’m a very busy person, and I like bringing a busy, fast-paced lifestyle,” and I remember her saying working here would give the chance to do that – and she was right.
My day-to-day tasks ranged from writing and scheduling social media posts on different social media outlets while using scheduling programs, to writing press releases and acting as a media contact, to creating blog posts on information relative to the public relations industry, and marketing for upcoming craft shows throughout show season.
I learned so much during my time as an intern to help shape who I am as a young professional venturing into the public relations industry. Never throughout the duration of my internship did I feel that I was doing something that was not going to help me in my future career in some way. Not only had I learned valuable public relations skills, but I expanded on my skills to handle many different tasks for different companies at a time.

I was very fortunate to have had Becki as a boss. She taught me so many skills I will be able to use when I go into “the real world,” and was an outstanding mentor throughout the whole process. She gave me the constructive criticism I needed that only helped me further my skills, and always brought a fun and positive atmosphere in the office. I couldn’t be more grateful to have had the experiences I did at Rebecca Adele PR & Events these past weeks.

Thank you so much!

My Grateful Experience at Rebecca Adele PR & Events

I can’t believe the time has come to be writing my final blog post for Rebecca Adele PR & Events. It doesn’t seem like it was too long ago, that I was nervously arriving for my first day at the office. My nerves were quickly settled by the friendly approach of Google, which is the energetic office dog, and the creative art pieces surrounding my desk.

The days were fast paced, full of many writing assignments and Pinterest boards while music played in the background. Throughout my time at this internship, my confidence in my writing has grown to a point where writing a press release no longer filled my stomach with nerves. I am so grateful for the responsibilities I have had during my internship and being given the chance to develop content for multiple clients each day. Those responsibilities have given me a great narrative in my interviewing process when they ask me the dreaded question, “How does you past experience prepare you for this position?” I answer that question confidently while describing my day-to-day tasks at Rebecca Adele PR & Events. While the learning never stopped, neither did the fun. I thank Becki Silverstein for all the jokes, chats and cute animals that made a day at the office something to look forward to.

I started this internship hoping to learn more about the public relations industry, but what I have gotten out of my time here is much more than just that. Becki Silverstein has given me a new point of view on business, writing, events and everything in between. Working so closely with her has allowed me to see what it takes to have a growing business, which would be a dream of mine someday.
As I finish up my last weeks at Kent State University, I look back at my education and experience working with Becki as a strong advantage to have during my job searching process!

Reflecting at My Time at Rebecca Adele PR & Events- Casie Varacelli

As May quickly approaches, I cannot believe how fast my time here at Rebecca Adele PR & Events has gone by. I enjoyed every aspect of this internship, from learning more about the fields I would like to go into, to spending quality time with Becki and all her furry friends! At the beginning of this, I was nervous since I had already graduated a couple years ago. Becki assured me that it was a great way to learn more about marketing, and that taking on an internship, along with my other job, was a good thing. Well, like a mom, she was right!

I was SO excited to dive into social media, public relations and especially events! I was pretty sure I knew all there was to know about social media, considering I spend an adequate amount of time on it, but I was wrong! I learned so much more about posts, links, images, hashtags, tweets and even scheduling. Rebecca Adele PR & Events has many different clients and I think that was a huge advantage in learning to write social media plans. Not every company’s needs are the same, and sometimes those even change mid-project!
When show time came, I was ready! I have always wanted to work with events and event planning. It was a great opportunity to see what all is involved in orchestrating an event. The other interns and I worked together as a team to post ads for the shows, artist statements and blogs. There was also waking up at 6am to put up signs and balloons, rain or shine, but it got us moving for the day! The shows gave me a great appreciation for all the hard work everyone puts in for an event to run smoothly and successfully.
Moving forward, I would like to pursue a career in either events or social media. I would like to further my creativity and I feel that this internship was a great reminder of why I went into marketing. Learning to write press releases and working with the media was an amazing experience, but lets just say it was not my favorite thing! I have the knowledge under my belt now though, if I were ever given the task.

I cannot thank Becki enough for the time she has put into helping me learn more about the industry and how to be a tough individual. She is a strong, independent entrepreneur and I think anyone would be lucky to work with her. She made work fun and rewarding, and she also has the most adorable pets ever that are great office companions! I appreciate everything she has done for me and I will definitely keep in touch.

I will miss everyone, and so will Duke!

Despite the Confusion and Backlash, the Instagram Algorithm Change is Actually a Good Thing

Instagram recently rocked the social media world by announcing that they would no longer show posts in chronological order, and would adopt a newsfeed order similar to Facebook’s. Instead of showing posts in order, the new algorithm will rely on a variety of markers such as relevancy and number of post engagements.

The intent of this new algorithm is to provide users with a more personalized feed, showing posts that the user is likely to find interesting first.
Instagram’s announcement of this change was met with immediate opposition. A petition even took off on Change.org request Instagram to continue using the chronological feed. The fear stemmed from concern that Instagram’s feed would become too similar to Facebook’s.
In January 2015, Facebook updated its algorithm to include less promotional content from business pages. As a result, Facebook users saw fewer promotional posts from business pages in their newsfeeds. This upset many business owners, as they felt their content was now going to be seen by fewer Facebook users, which had a negative impact on their business.

Although Instagram’s algorithm change seems similar to Facebook’s, there is one very important difference: Instagram does not separate business accounts from personal accounts. Instagram’s algorithm change does not mean that users will see fewer promotional posts from businesses, it only means that users will see content they are likely to consider interesting first in their feeds.
Since the new algorithm takes into account relevancy and popularity, Instagram analytics will become increasingly important with the algorithm change. Businesses should track analytics to determine the effectiveness of posted content and make necessary adjustments to increase interactions and the number of post engagements.

The algorithm change may actually be beneficial to businesses. If you post fabulous content, it will pop up at the top of your followers’ newsfeeds, even if you posted it several hours ago. So now is the time to make sure your businesses’ Instagram content is the best it can be.

Facebook Messenger unveils usernames and scannable profile codes to the app

With the popularity of the Facebook Messenger app rising, the social media network has only been searching for ways to make it easier for users to connect with one another.
“Starting today we are taking another step forward in delivering a new solution to the more than 900 million people who use Messenger every month,” the company stated.

Facebook has been looking for a way to make the app more personalized. Just as with all accounts, Messenger accounts now have personalized links people can use to start a chat – all users can be located at m.me/[username].
In addition, Facebook is coming out with Messenger Codes, which are the app’s equivalent to Snapchat’s snapcodes. The Messenger Codes are a series of dots and dashes around your profile picture, and allows others to scan the code with their camera to add you as a contact! The codes can either be scanned phone-to-phone or scanned onto your phone if the code is up on a computer screen.
The advancement may not seem as big of a deal now, but is a huge deal when looking at the bigger picture of Messenger’s future. By the end of the year, Facebook wants messenger to not only be a way to connect with friends, but become a place for users to chat with companies and customer service bots, and have useful information sent to you.
The app’s come a long way in a short period of time. Who knows what else the company has in store!

Facebook Moving Towards Live Streaming TV Shows

As of March 21st, 2016, Facebook is now moving towards live streaming television shows! Cable network E! was the first to bring their show live on Facebook at 12:30pm that day. The show has been revamped to fit the new single-camera format, but will still bring the breaking news and content that viewers want to see.

E! has a massive social media following, with 9 million Facebook page likes! They hope that to attract a new  following as viewers will be able to comment and leave questions directly on their Facebook page and these will be answered live on air! E! will continue to air their show daily, at the same time slot, and viewers will be informed via Facebook notifications.
While this is currently the only show being streamed live, Facebook has much bigger plans for this platform. They have recently been in meetings with multiple TV executives over the past couple weeks and are currently competing with Twitter to gain rights to NFL’s Thursday night games. They also have stated that they are willing to pay a little bit to have famous people start creating live videos. This would be huge for Facebook, and I am sure they will get what they want!

What shows would you want to see broadcasted live on Facebook? Share with us your thoughts and opinions!
